Electoral Justice (EJ) Organizer

Through our #WokeVoterSTL campaign, Action St. Louis has empowered and engaged Black voters to create change and shape the future of St. Louis and beyond. From changes in public discourse to changes in public policy, we have worked to ensure that affected community members have a seat at the decision-making tables and are fairly represented.

We now seek an Electoral Justice (EJ) Organizer to build on our success in community and electoral organizing and position us for future success through expanding our outreach, education, and training. The organizer will work to achieve short-term and long-term civic engagement goals in alignment with the mission and vision of Action St. Louis.

Applications are due by 8/22 at midnight.

Close the Workhouse (CTW) Organizer

Close the Workhouse calls for the closure of the Medium Security Institute, better known as the Workhouse. The campaign also seeks an end to wealth based pretrial detention and the reinvestment of the money used to cage poor people and Black people into rebuilding the most impacted neighborhoods in this region. The campaign is a collaboration of the individuals subjected to incarceration at the Workhouse and lawyers and activists engaged on the issue. The campaign’s three primary organizational partners work in collaboration everyday in St. Louis to get people free: Action St. Louis, ArchCity Defenders, and Bail Project St. Louis.

Action St. Louis is currently seeking an organizer to support base-building for the Close the Workhouse campaign. This position will be responsible for finding, training, scheduling and developing volunteers in support positions for the campaign as well as managing paid canvass workers. The organizer is responsible for strategic outreach aimed at targeting elected officials who are on the fence about closing the Workhouse in anticipation of the 2020 budget process.

Applications are due by 8/22 at midnight.
