The People’s Response: 6-Month Community Survey

On May 16, 2025, an EF3 tornado ripped through North St. Louis and surrounding areas — destroying homes and displacing families, shattering generations of memories and possessions. Within 48 hours, The People's Response hub was born, led by Action St. Louis, ForTheCultureSTL and thousands of volunteers who poured into these efforts for the following 6 weeks. This emergency hub provided essential aid, resources, and support for North City residents. The hub closed in June but the mission of The People’s Response continues.

Six months later, and impacted families still face displacement, financial hardships, insufficient support and aid, and an unacceptably slow recovery process. This brings up a critical question: What does an equitable recovery for a community that has endured decades of systemic divestment look like? We demand North St. Louis receive an EQUITABLE AND JUST recovery.
